Prospective Students
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
All students who get a bachelor's degree from CNU, no matter what their majors, must complete at least three credit hours of college mathematics. All courses listed in the "Undergraduate Catalog" with the MATH prefix meet this general education requirement. Most students meet this requirement by taking one of the four math courses below:
- Contemporary Mathematics: MATH 105
- College Algebra: MATH 110
- Introduction to Statistics: MATH 125
- Elementary Functions and Trigonometry: MATH 130
All of these courses assume that you have successfully completed algebra II. If you haven't, then you should seriously consider taking algebra II at Thomas Nelson Community College before attempting to take math courses at CNU.
Students can also satisfy the mathematics general education requirement through credit received through the Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams or by credit earned at other colleges and universities. AP or IB requirements for math credit are given at below. CNU's Department of Admissions can tell students who took math courses at other colleges and universities if any of these courses will meet the math general education requirement.

AP/IB CREDITS
Advanced Placement (AP)
There are three AP tests that you can use to receive credit for CNU math courses: Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and Probability and Statistics.
If you took the Calculus AB test and scored a 4 or 5, you will receive credit for Math 140, Calculus and Analytic Geometry and Math 240, Intermediate Calculus. If you scored a 3 on the Calculus AB test, you will get credit for Math 140.
If you took the calculus BC test and scored 3 or higher, you will receive credit for Math 140, Calculus and Analytic Geometry and Math 240, Intermediate Calculus. If you scored a 2 on the Calculus BC test, you will get credit for Math 140.
If you took the Probability and Statistics test and scored a 4 or 5, then you will get credit for Math 125, Elementary Statistics.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
If you received an International Baccalaureate diploma, took the higher level mathematics IB exam, and scored 5 or better, then you will receive credit for Math 140, Calculus and Analytic Geometry and Math 240, Intermediate Calculus.
